The on-line meeting of the WSF Hemispheric Council (Americas) finally
finished. Here are some of the issues that came up:
1. It was confirmed that the Social Forum of the Americas will take place on 8 - 13 March 2004 in Quito.
2. It was decided that there will be four working groups to further elaborate these issues:
-Programming and Methodology
-Regional Relationships
-Resources
-Communication and Culture
3. Following comments by Michael Albert and myself, in the Americas Social Forum there will (hopefully) be emphasis on future-oriented strategies and not exclusively on discussing what goes wrong now.
4. This meeting was continuation of the previous meetings where Roxana Crisólogo and myself represented NIGD. The first meeting was held in Quito, Ecuador in October 2002, and the second in Porto Alegre in January 2003. The regional organization process has been coordinated by Ecuadorian organizations and new groups have been joining in.
5. A face-to-face meeting of the Hemispheric Council will be organized in Miami just before of after the WSF International Council meeting towards the end of June. There is also a proposal to hold information and exchange meetings in Cartagena (June) and/or Cancún (September).
