The WSF goes to Africa: Time for a Cultural and Ecological Renewal?
Where and when? On Wednesday, 7 September 2005, at 19.00 at the Old Students House "Vanha" (Tiedekuntasali, 2nd floor) in Helsinki, Finland.
What A panel discussion in preparation for the African Social Forum 2006 and the World Social Forum in Africa 2007.
Why? In 2007, the African Social Forum IV takes place in Kenya. In 2006, the World Social Forum will be held in a polycentric format, in other words, several World Social Forums will be held simultaneously in multiple places throughout the world. One of the polycentric World Social Forums will be held in Africa. Traditionally, Finnish actors have had firm positions within development cooperation on the African continent. Inspired by the role of Africa in the World Social Forum process, the WSF Africa Commission in Finland organises a discussion on the emerging issues from African civil society. Are these issues politicised? How?
Participating are:
Heidi Hautala, MP (green), Finland
Peter Kuria Githinji, Siemenpuu
Liisa Laakso, Professor, University of Jyväskylä, Finland
