Below is the work plan of the sub-group on the profile of the present IC members and new applications to the IC as discussed and adopted in Utrecht on Friday April 1st 2005. The tasks below are to be accomplish before the IC meeting in Barcelona in June. You will see in brackets who has accepted to achieve each tasks.

Our tasks is to prepare a portrait/profile of the existing members of the IC so we can see what are the gaps as far as regional representation, issues, movements, international organizations, etc. and propose some steps to expand the IC over the next 18 months. We also have to propose procedures and criteria for the new applications to the IC.

In a first phase, we want to send a letter along with a questionnaire to the present IC members and complement that information with available information at the International Secretariat or web sites of the organizations. We will then do a compilation of who is part of the IC and propose a road map to fill the gaps that we have. That material will be used in our next meeting in Barcelona to complete our discussion on expansion of the IC. We also need to look at the criteria for new applications and clarify the procedures.

By mid-April

Write the letter that will be sent to all the existing IC members to ask information on their organizations in order to give a portrait of who is in the IC right now. We will ask them to answer the accompanying questionnaire as soon as possible in order to give us the possibility to prepare the discussion at the next IC meeting. (Amit)

Send us a copy of a questionnaire that Friends of the Earth has used for a similar exercise (Mae) so we can have a discussion as a sub-group and choose the questions we want to ask (all of us)

By April 28th

(Moema) will send us all the information that the International Secretariat (Brazilian) has on the present members and the new applications that have been sent in. She will also send us the list of presence for the IC meetings and the commissions for the last few years.

1st week of May

Send the questionnaire to the IC members through our list (Moema or Secretariat) Open a new yahoo account for the groups to send back their questionnaire (Mae)

By the end of May till mid-June

Compilation of the questionnaire will be done by the International Secretariat (India)

We will gather some information on the present members of the IC in order to complement the information received through the questionnaire or if the questionnaire is not returned. (Diane for the French speaking groups; Gautam for the English speaking groups and Moema for the Spanish and Portuguese speaking groups). We will ask the contribution of Babels if we need translation.

A road map for the expansion of the IC over an 18 months period (based on the portrait of the present IC) will be prepared and discussed to be presented to the next IC (Neil and Gautam)

A review of the Miami criteria and the accumulated discussion around that question will be done (Phumi and Roberto) in order to help us propose criteria to be adopted at the next IC meeting.

Procedures for new applications to the IC will be proposed for the next IC meeting (Mae)
