Expansion Commission proposals approved for WSF Expansion process
Presented by Neil Coleman (Cosatu)
Text taken from the official notes of the WSF IC meetings March 31st to April 2nd in Holland.
1. While there has been significant expansion of the WSF process since its inception, there is a need for its expansion to be pursued proactively to enhance its geographic, thematic and sectoral spread, in order to correct the imbalance created by its uneven spread.
2. In order to do this, as a first step, information about the spread of the process and the gaps in it should be systematically put together in the form of a database and a “sociogram” of the WSF process and be accessible to everybody. The information should be regionally driven, drawing from information provided by local, national and regional processes. This task would require some support in terms of regular secretarial assistance.
3. We would actively encourage all participants of the WSF to spread the vision and experience of the WSF wherever possible, making optimal use of available resources and the opportunity provided while travelling to different parts of the world.
4. There is a need for spenific fundraising to pursue the work of expansion of the WSF process, which will need to be concreteised in the form of a proposal over the coming months.
5. Wherever there are specific requests for support from a region, such as a request from Africa that we already have, the IC/Expansion Commission will help in organising support for expansion of the process based on specific requirements and requests from the region.
