1. Update on the campaign for a Currency Transaction Tax
The months of June and July have seen positive developments regarding a
CTT in Belgium and Brazil. Read more in this July/August CTT update.
The International Press Service office at the United Nations Office in
New York asked NIGD for a commentary regarding how NIGD views the
actual possibilities for the realization of a CTT, and secondly, the
reasons as to why the CTT tax is being so strongly opposed by the US

Chantal Mouffe guest lecture
Chantal Mouffe gave a guest lecture at Helsinki University. Read Heikki Patomäki's analysis of the lecture.
Midwest Social Forum
Thomas Ponniah and Marc Becker report on the Midwest Social Forum held on 4-6 June in Williams Bay, WI, USA.
Americas Social Forum
The Social Forum of the Americas was held in Quito, Euador at the end
of July and Marc Becker and Teivo Teivainen attended the forum. NIGD
organized an event titled "How to deepen democracy in the World Social
Forum" and co-organized a panel entitled "Democracy without end so that
capitalism comes to an end". Read the full report by Marc Becker.
"Librarians and World Social Forum, Unite!"
In his essay "Librarians and World Social Forum, Unite!" Mikael Böök is
developing one of the themes of the library-related workshop
at the WSF in Mumbai: the documentation of the WSF and the role of the
librarians and information professionals in the WSF process. The
article
appears in the summer issue of Information for Social Change : www.libr.org/isc.
