Enlazando Alternativas en Lima
Raphael Hoetmer
Lima will host in may the Summit of the Peoples: Enlazando Alternativas, organized by the bi-regional network of Latin American and European civil society. The summit will accompany the presidential summit of both regions, just as in Vienna in 2007.
The Programa is participating actively in the organisation of the Summit. We are also organising a workshop, together with the Communities Affected by Mining, probably the Spanish NGO EntrePueblos, the Dutch Ojala, the Red de Resistencia Solidaria from Brazil, etc. The workshop will have two parts: the first on the consequences and crisis of neoliberalism (in which hopefully Immanuel will participate), and a second one of alternatives for the construction of a real democracy (in which will participate Teivo, and hopefully Boaventura). Apart from researchers, Latin American (mostly Peruvian) social activists from different movements will participate. My concrete question right now, is if NIGD formally wants to participate as a co-organizer (in a sense this is the case already, as the organizers are members of NIGD)? I think, this would be great and give an extra dimension to the event, especially as the Spanish translation of the book on An Other Possible World by Teivo and Heikki will be presented during the workshop.
