Global movement, local demands? Mapping the future of the debt movement.
On 11 September NIGD and ATTAC Finland organises a seminar on the debt issue in Helsinki, which is part of the second phase of an ongoing project on the debt crises since 2006. At the seminar the draft version of the publication "Reviving the global debt movement: the search for a common agenda" coming forth out of this second phase of the project will be introduced. European Social Forum
NIGD co-organises among other a workshop on culture and politics at the European Social Forum in Malmö.

World Social Forum International Council meeting
Teivo Teivainen represents NIGD at the WSF IC meeting in Copenhagen.  Azril Bacal, Mikko Sauli and Uddhab Pyakurel will participate as observers. Reports will follow in NIGD News and Notes October issue.

The WSF Global week of action takes place from 21-26 January 2008,  with a culmination on the WSF Global day of action on 26 January. Several NIGD members are involved in local activities during the week around the globe.

In Finland, NIGD members Mikko Sauli, Laura Tuominen, Jaakko Valli and Ruby van der Wekken are part of the core organisation of local activities during three days, which include a WSF speakerscorner tent downtown Helsinki, debate and a party for Another World is Possible! and a gathering of demands in front of the Ministry of Finance on 26.1 - see

Teivo Teivainen participates on Jan 11 in Delhi in the seminar on the WSF process organized jointly by CACIM and SADED.

Teivo Teivainen gave a talk on the impact of globalization on the third world on Jan 7 in Saint Xavier College, Goa, and another one on Jan 8 on globalization and democracy in Latin America in Goa University.
