US Social Forum

On 27 June - 1 July, Marc Becker and Thomas Ponniah represent NIGD at the first US Social Forum in Atlanta.

World Public Finances in Rostock
On 6 June, Francine Mestrum is coordinating a seminar on World Public Finances at the G8 Alternative Summit in Rostock. At the seminar this new network of networks will look towards drafting a programme for the World's Public Finances. The organisers are NIGD, Attac France, Attac Brasil, and Attac Japan.

La Sarita in Finland - Cultural Expressions of Global and Local (Glocal) Migration

On 23 - 31 May, the Peruvian rock band La Sarita visits Finland. Besides the concerts, various debates will be organized about the experiences that Latin America have about the hybridization of cultures.  The visit is part of the Cultural Expressions of Global Local (Glocal) Migration -project, executed by NIGD. Meeting of the WSF IC

On 30-31 May, the International Council of the World Social Forum meets in Berlin. NIGD will be represented at the meeting.

People's Forum on the Asian Development Bank

On 4-6 May, at the Doshisha University in Kyoto, Heikki Patomäki and Katarina Sehm Patomäki speak about global taxation and the debt problem.

Global Taxation and the Debt Problem

On 30 April, Heikki Patomäki spoke of a tax on currency transactions and Katarina Sehm Patomäki spoke of the global debt problem at a seminar in Tokyo organised by Attac Japan.

The Second International Symposium: Global Governance and Gobal Welfare: Future of Global Tax, Debt and Global Social Movements
On 29 April, Heikki Patomäki and Katarina Sehm Patomäki discussed the future of global tax, debt and global social movements at the Second International Symposium on Global Governance and Global Welfare organized by the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Chiba University in Tokyo.

Finnish Social Forum
On 21-22 April, NIGD representatives participated in the Finnish Social Forum in Helsinki. Ruby van der Wekken and Tuomas Ylä-Anttila co-organised a session planning the WSF mobilizations in 2008.

Melbourne Social Forum
On 20-21 April, Heikki Patomäki and Katarina Sehm Patomäki took part in the Melbourne Social Forum.

On 4 April, Heikki Patomäki gave a public lecture at the School of Social and Environmental Enquiry- Geography and Environment Series in Melbourne.

The International Studies Association

On 28 February - 3 March, Teivo Teivainen spoke at the Annual Convention of the International Studies Association in Chicago. Also at the convention, Teivo formed part of a roundtable honoring Susan George.

Meeting of the WSF IC
On 26-27 January, the International Council of the World Social Forum met at the Stadia Guest House (Kasarani) in Nairobi. NIGD was represented by Teivo Teivainen, Ruby van der Wekken and Tuomas Ylä-Anttila.

The World Social Forum VII

The World Social Forum met in Nairobi, Kenya, on 20-24 January. Also this year NIGD was represented by a strong group organising and co-organising multiple events. In addition, NIGD members were invited to speak at numerous other events of the Forum.

On 17 January, Teivo Teivainen spoke about the political role of the World Social Forum at a seminar organised by the Centre for Civil Society at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa.
