NIGD publishes material using several methods. NIGD publishes its own series of Working and Discussion Papers; additionally, brief reports are released on specific issues. In addition, NIGD publishes in cooperation with other institutions; for instance with the National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health (Stakes), and the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (UPI). NIGD researchers also actively publish in international journals, and with commercial publishers. 

NIGD material is distributed both within its own address book, and among other research and activist networks. NIGD publications have been distributed within the ATTAC network, for example. NIGD material is also often posted to fellow members of the International Council of the World Social Forum. 

Publications issued prior to 2002 were supported by the Nottingham Trent University, and bear the logo NTU.
